B&C Wedding – London

B&C are a lovely young couple who got in touch with me through their friend who saw me taking pictures at another wedding from before. First time me met we sat down for a coffee — the best way to have any kind of meeting, if you ask me. The couple has already seen my work, now we got a chance to get to know each other in person, get comfy and talk about the details of the wedding and what they were after. Before saying good bye we already had the date for the second meeting to see the venues pretty much set. I was very pleased and thought we could work together very well.

Month later we were at the church for our second meeting going through the ceremony step-by-step. This part is instrumental to me and what I do as a wedding photographer. Even though it is hard to predict the exact lighting of the day, I can at least have a look at the windows and other light sources to see what I equipment I need and what I have to work with to compensate for weather/light misfortunes. The church turned out to be a rather large and historical building in the heart of Deptford, which the couple had a personal connection to. By the time we moved on to the reception venue I had already planned out exactly where I’d be standing during every part of the ceremony.

The reception venue turned out to be a large pub a walking distance away from the Tower Bridge. It had mixed style interior somewhere between modern and classical that was quite deep and painted with dark and rich colours. I knew straight away I’d need to use my flashes to get any kind of acceptable results. Did I say I also got to taste the drinks that the newlyweds would be serving up on the day of their celebrations? By that time I felt more like a part of the wedding than a hired professional. After the second meeting I went home feeling very confident about the shoot and all of the photographer anxiety has vanished all together.

Anyway, the wedding day went without a hitch and I managed to get some lovely, natural photos of the newlyweds, family and close friends. Between the church and the venue I got into a big black cab with the newlyweds and we made a stop at the icon Tower of London for some portraits (much to the amusement of the crowd tourists).
